If you ask Yelp Buffalo, the best place to eat in Buffalo is Teton Kitchen … in Depew.
Yelp, a website that allows people to rank local businesses, on Tuesday published a list of the top 100 restaurants in Buffalo. Teton Kitchen was No. 1; the rest of the top 10 included six restaurants within city limits (Five Points Bakery, Sun Restaurant, Ashker’s Juice Bar and Cafe, Michelle’s Caribbean Cuisine, Marco’s Italian Deli and Melting Point), as well as a few other suburban offerings (Shack on Delaware, La Divina Mexican Store and Kentucky Greg’s Hickory Pit).
News Food Editor Andrew Galarneau reviewed Teton Kitchen in 2013 and enjoyed what he found. “Suburban eaters hungry to discover new Japanese and Thai dishes at blue-collar prices ought to give Teton Kitchen a shot,” he wrote. “It showed me enough satisfying choices to make me wonder what other glories its menu holds.”
Geographical considerations aside, it’s interesting to note the success of casual restaurants. So where did Yelp’s rankings come from?
“To calculate the top 100, our data scientists used a technique based on the Wilson Score to compile a list of the highest-rated restaurants,” wrote post author Alex L. “This method takes into account both star rating and number of reviews to reveal which spots not only have top-notch ratings, but also which are most popular in the Buffalo area.”
